Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has met a couple of times with Massimiliano Allegri during the recent tennis tournament in Rome to be ready for the possibility that Antonio Conte is a one-and-done, even should they win the Scudetto, Alfredo Pedullà informs.
The summit with the current gaffer hasn’t happened yet. The latter has routinely voiced his frustration lately. He’s highly attracted by the Bianconeri job, which reciprocate the interest, unlike last year, when they had chosen Thiago Motta well in advance. The Old Lady’s brass will take stock at the beginning of June. They esteem Igor Tudor, but they’d go all the way if there were a chance to reunite with the Partenopei boss.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, the root of the issues between Conte and De Laurentiis is the January window, and if indeed parted ways, the president would go for somebody less demanding, like Allegri.
In particular, the boss wanted the club to reject the offers for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, as they had done last summer, when PSG had proposed €130M. Instead, the front office didn’t want another saga like Victor Osimhen’s one. They didn’t meet his demands to bolster the squad, bringing in just a pair of loanees.
The tide has turned significantly after the positive signals in previous months. It’d be a peculiar choice by him, as they are positioned for a grand summer on the transfer. Plus, he wouldn’t have the chance to be an all-encompassing figure in other sides. Either he’s tired of that, or he has completely lost trust if he really wants out. As for the Bianconeri, only appointing him or Gian Piero Gasperini would justify a coaching change.
