Nashville SC, Inter Miami CF play scoreless first leg in Champions Cup Round of 16

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The 2026 Concacaf Champions Cup continued with Nashville SC and Inter Miami CF drawing nil-nil in the First Leg of their Round of 16 series on Wednesday at GEODIS Park in Nashville, Tennessee, USA.
Sam Surridge nearly found the opener for the hosts in the 11’, with a curler from the left side of the box that was just wide of the right post.
Warren Madrigal generated a pair of dangerous chances for Nashville, with a header in the 22’ that was just wide left, followed by a finish inside the box in the 38’ that was saved by Inter Miami goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair.
St Clair pulled off an important save in the 42’, denying a powerful right-footed hit from Surridge from inside the box.
Inter Miami came close to finding the winner with back-to-back opportunities in the 57’. An initial shot from Lionel Messi from the right end of the box was saved by Nashville goalkeeper Brian Schwake, with Germán Berterame then pouncing on the rebound and nearly scoring with a finish that was just wide of the left post.
Hany Mukhtar and Madrigal nearly struck for Nashville with attempts that were just wide of the bottom-left corner in the 62’ and in the 70’, respectively.
Both goalkeepers delivered solid performances to keep clean sheets. Inter Miami’s St. Clair tallied four saves, while Nashville’s Schwake recorded one.
Inter Miami will host the Second Leg of the series next Wednesday at Inter Miami CF Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA. The winner on aggregate will advance to the Quarterfinals.
• Inter Miami CF held more possession than Nashville SC in this match (59% to 41%). However, Nashville recorded more total shots (18-5), more shots on target (4-1), and generated more expected goals (1.2 xG to 0.5 xG).
