Swiss courts on Friday acquitted PSG and beIN Media Group president Nasser al-Khelaïfi and co-defendant Jérôme Valcke in the FIFAgate TV rights case. Valcke nonetheless received an 11-month suspended sentence in a separate case.

According to L'Équipe, more than eight years after the case began, the Federal Tribunal in Lausanne delivered a final acquittal. Al-Khelaïfi and Valcke, FIFA’s former secretary general from 2007 to 2015, had faced charges of instigation to aggravated dishonest management and aggravated dishonest management.

For al-Khelaïfi, it is a third acquittal in the dispute linked to broadcast rights for the 2026 and 2030 World Cups.

Prosecutors had alleged Valcke monetised his support for beIN Sports in exchange for the use of Villa Bianca, a grand property in Sardinia, between 2014 and 2015.

In the other case, he was convicted of passive corruption and falsification of documents, accused of taking €1.25 million from Dinos Deris to favour media rights in Greece and Italy for several World Cups, then recording the payments as loans in his accounts.
