Manchester City defender Nathan Ake has undergone surgery on a long-term foot problem, adding to the club's injury crisis in the short-term.
Ake joins Manuel Akanji and John Stones in being sidelined, with Ruben Dias only just back in action from his latest injury setback after a stop-start campaign so far.
Ake himself has had prior spells out of the team through injury this season, missing games in September, October, December, January and February. But the versatile Dutchman has now gone down the route of surgery to fix a foot fracture.
It will mean a spell on the sidelines while he recovers, but the hope for Ake is that he will be better served in the long run than trying to manage the issue week to week.
"This has been such a frustrating season for me but I have now had a successful surgery on a fracture in my foot which has been bothering me for months and I am looking positively to the future," the former Chelsea and Bournemouth player posted on Instagram.
The accompanying image was of Ake in a hospital bed, post-surgery, with his left foot wrapped and bandaged, and giving a thumbs up.
City's problems at centre-back this season prompted the winter pursuit of Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens. The talented but raw 20-year-old is the first player from Uzbekistan in the Premier League and has quickly racked up appearances due to a shortage of options.
Khusanov has already left a positive impression on Pep Guardiola, who commented last week on the youngster's rapid impact and popularity behind the scenes in the dressing room.
Brazilian teenager Vitor Reis also joined the club in a big money January deal but has remained an unused substitute in the Premier League, so far only featuring in the FA Cup.
