Nathan Ngoy was sent off for Belgium against Iran at the World Cup after a costly mistake in the 66th minute.

According to L'Équipe, the Lille defender underhit a back-pass towards Thibaut Courtois as Belgium pressed to open the scoring, freeing Mehdi Taremi to break through.

Ngoy impeded Taremi with his arm, and the challenge resulted in a red card.

Belgium had to see out the remainder of the second half with 10 men.

The error came from a seemingly harmless situation that suddenly turned dangerous.
