A new chapter may soon begin for the Polish national team as Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski could be on the verge of returning to international duty.

Lewandowski had previously considered retiring from international football after stepping away following internal disagreements with the Polish Football Federation.

The veteran forward made it clear that he would not wear Poland’s shirt again while Michał Probierz remained in charge. However, with Probierz stepping down, the door has opened for a possible reconciliation.

Peace offering

Urban, officially presented as Poland’s new coach this week, views bringing Lewandowski back as one of his first priorities. The two are expected to meet soon, although the exact date of their face-to-face conversation is still unknown.

remains unclear if the meeting will happen before Barcelona’s upcoming tour of Asia, which runs from July 24 to August 5, or after the team returns to Spain.

According to reports, the rift between Lewandowski and the Federation appears to be over. Both sides have reportedly signed a “peace pact” aimed at smoothing over past tensions.

However, one unresolved issue is the matter of the captaincy. Under former coach Probierz, Lewandowski was stripped of the armband, and whether he will regain it remains up in the air.

Urban initially stated in his first interview that the decision to return to international football would be left entirely to Lewandowski.

But during his official presentation, Urban changed his stance, confirming that he counts on Lewandowski to lead Poland in upcoming competitions.

With the 2026 World Cup qualifiers approaching, Poland is eager to have their star striker back in the squad.

Lewandowski’s experience will be vital as the national team looks to bounce back and secure a spot at the next World Cup.
