Nazariy Rusyn has addressed speculation over his Sunderland future, saying he could yet stay for the final year of his deal.
The Ukrainian forward scored four goals on loan at Arka Gdynia in the second half of last season and is due to return to Wearside. Sport.ua claimed Sunderland had agreed a fee with Karpaty Lviv and that a deal could be concluded in the coming days.
“I don’t know. I don’t deal with this issue, so I can’t say anything specific right now. I’m currently waiting for the end of my contract with Arka, which ends on June 30.”
He was speaking to Ukrainian Football.
“Nothing is known. My agent is talking to Sunderland. I don’t have any specific information yet. I only know that I have to be in Sunderland on July 4, because that’s when our training camp starts. So I’m flying to England on July 1.”
Rusyn joined from Zorya Luhansk in summer 2023 and struggled to establish himself under successive head coaches, later departing on loan.
Asked if staying for another season was possible, Rusyn said: “Yes, of course. I don’t rule it out.”
“The main thing for me now is to fly to England. We’ve applied for visas for my children, and we’ll see how everything goes there. But there is a high probability that I will stay in England for a year and complete my contract with Sunderland until the end.”
He added that he has not yet spoken to head coach Régis Le Bris about his prospects.
