Nazariy Rusyn is close to a permanent Sunderland exit after a fee was agreed with Karpaty Lviv, according to Sport.ua. The move could be finalised in the coming days.

Rusyn has struggled for regular minutes since arriving from Zorya Luhansk in summer 2023. He joined Polish top-flight side Arka Gdynia in January and struck four goals in the second half of the season.

Sunderland are likely to take a loss on their 2023 outlay. While a framework with the Ukrainian club is said to be in place, Rusyn must still reach an agreement with Sunderland, and he has one year left on his contract.

If Sunderland do secure a fee it would help limit any loss from an SCR perspective, with profit or loss measured against a player's book value across a three-year average. It would also mark further progress in Florent Ghisolfi's effort to trim the wage bill and move on players unlikely to feature in Régis Le Bris's plans next season.

Last week Milan Aleksić joined Partizan Belgrade on an initial loan that includes an option to buy next summer, reportedly for around £1,000,000. Harrison Jones has also left permanently for League One side Peterborough United.

Several players are due back from loans ahead of pre-season, including Arthur Masuaku, Jenson Seelt, Timothée Pembélé, Simon Adingra, Alan Browne, Leo Hjelde and Aji Alese. Anthony Patterson is also expected to depart this summer after his loan at Millwall, with strong interest in his signature.
