Nazariy Rusyn is edging towards a permanent move away from Sunderland after a season of limited minutes. The forward spent the second half of last term on loan at Polish top-tier side Arka Gdynia, scoring four.

Sport.ua reports that Karpaty Lviv have agreed a fee with the Black Cats and a deal could be concluded in the coming days. Rusyn still needs to reach an agreement with Sunderland before it can be finalised, and he has one year left on his contract.

Sunderland will likely make a loss on the sum paid to Zorya Luhansk in summer 2023. Any fee would help limit that loss under SCR rules, with profit or loss calculated against book value then averaged across three years.

A sale would also advance director of football Florent Ghisolfi’s efforts to trim the wage bill and move on players unlikely to feature in Régis Le Bris’s plans next season. Milan Aleksić joined Partizan Belgrade on loan last week, with an option to make it permanent next summer for about £1,000,000. Harrison Jones has left permanently for Peterborough United.

Several players return from loans ahead of pre-season, including Arthur Masuaku, Jenson Seelt, Timothée Pembélé, Simon Adingra, Alan Browne, Leo Hjelde and Aji Alese. Anthony Patterson is also expected to depart this summer after his Millwall loan, with significant interest in his signature.
