NEC Nijmegen keen on Cape Verde international following departure from PEC Zwolle | OneFootball

Soccernews is reporting that NEC Nijmegen are in negotiations with Cape Verde international Jamiro Monteiro. The 32-year-old left PEC Zwolle a few weeks ago after his contract expired and has been playing for the Sharks in their debut World Cup campaign. Monteiro and NEC are said to be close to an agreement to bring the midfielder to the club for the upcoming Eredivisie season.

Monteiro played in all four of Cape Verde’s World Cup games as the side made it out of the group stages and almost shocked Argentina in the Round of 32. Monteiro began his career in the Netherlands with Cambuur and Heracles before departing. He then went on to play for Metz in Ligue 1, Philadelphia Union and San Jose Earthquakes in the MLS before returning to Europe to play for Gaziantep. In 2024 the Cape Verde midfielder joined PEC Zwolle and over the past two seasons he has played 52 games for the club, scoring five goals and providing five assists.

Monteiro can play as a central midfielder, out wide or behind the striker.
