Real Betis face a pivotal call on Nelson Deossa this summer, weighing patience against market options as Champions League plans take shape.
According to La Colina De Nervion, Betis spent 12 to 14 million euros after his Monterrey stint and Club World Cup impact, targeting a left footed, driving midfielder to suit Manuel Pellegrini.
Year one told a different story. Deossa produced moments but never nailed down a starting spot, his LaLiga adaptation falling short of expectations and the fee yet to be justified.
The Colombian said during the season that he had much more to give. At 26 and tied to 2030, Betis keep strong leverage over any decision.
Champions League demands accelerate choices. Pellegrini needs reliability in the middle, not unconfirmed potential. Offers near the initial outlay would be considered, while a bargain sale is not in the plan.
Midfield will be under the greatest strain next term, with more games and rotation from day one. In that context, Deossa must show he can make the jump now. If the staff back his progression he could get a second season to prove it, otherwise a sale could help finance a more immediate reinforcement.
His future is as much about management as performance. Betis cannot afford to sell poorly, yet cannot ignore immediate needs. The market in the coming weeks will set the course.
