Nemo Thomsen has signed a four-year contract with FC Fredericia, becoming the first male footballer from Greenland to secure a full-time professional deal. The 22-year-old forward joins the Danish second-tier club after a breakthrough season.
Born in Ilulissat, Thomsen moved to Denmark as a teenager and had spells with SönderjyskE, Kolding and Young Boys FD before Brabrand. He came to prominence this season at Brabrand with 12 goals, close to a third of the team’s total.
Thomsen was a prodigy at home, becoming the Greenlandic Championship’s youngest scorer at 14. He also excelled in futsal, finishing top scorer at the 2018 Arctic Winter Games with 22 goals. He later became the youngest player called up by the national football team and is now one of its leaders.
He described the move as a proud moment for him and his family, calling it a significant milestone to be the first Greenlander to sign a professional contract.
“The most important thing is not being the first. I hope many others in football or other sports in Greenland will get the same chance and follow their dreams,” he told KNR.
