The Netherlands have made contact with former Liverpool manager Arne Slot to discuss the prospect of taking charge of the national team.
Ronald Koeman has left his role with the Netherlands following their 2026World Cup exit in the Round of 32. The Oranje lost on penalties to Morocco in the first knockout round and Koeman resigned from his role in the aftermath of the loss.
"Looking back on my career, I feel especially proud. I have worked with clubs and people that shaped me and gave me memories that I will cherish for a lifetime," he said via Instagram.
"We all dreamed of a World Cup in which we would write history. That didn't work out. No-one is more disappointed about that than me.
"The past years have made me realise again that there are more important things than football. Football has been my life, but health is priceless. When someone you love is fighting a tough battle, your perspective changes."
According toSky Sports Germany, Slot has been identified as a leading candidate to replace Koeman.
The 47-year-old left Liverpool this summer after two seasons at Anfield. He led the Reds to thePremier League title in 2024/25, but departed last month after a disappointing second season. Liverpool finished fifth last season, with internal discussions deciding that change was needed in the dugout.
Prior to his spell at Liverpool, Slot won the Eredivisie title during a successful stint with Feyenoord.
Slot is the latest ex-Liverpool manager linked with international management this week. The German Football Association have approached Jurgen Klopp over their vacant role, following Julian Nagelsmann's exit.
