After Bayern Munich’s 4-0 triumph over Club Brugge, captain Manuel Neuer reflected on his team’s strong performance, praising their focus, collective energy, and the confidence flowing through the squad. He also highlighted the impressive display of young forward Lennart Karl and spoke about the challenges that lie ahead against tougher opponents:
“The key is, I think, that winning is fun,” Neuer said after the final whistle. “You can see the joy in our play, and that’s exactly how we approach games. It’s only the third matchday of the Champions League season, so there’s no room to be sloppy. We have to stay focused every time, and we went into this match very motivated - that’s why our first-half performance was so strong.”
One of the main talking points of the evening was Lennart Karl’s first start in the Champions League, in which the young striker scored and impressed throughout. Neuer was quick to praise his teammate’s maturity and instinct: “He has a lot of potential,” the Bayern captain said. “He’s difficult to defend, has a great finish - you could see that with his first goal. He’s got that momentum right now and all of our players coming in from the bench are full of confidence. You can really feel that. We trust him, and he pays that trust back.”
Neuer also discussed Bayern’s pressing and defensive work, which kept Brugge under pressure for most of the match: “Our pressing as a team worked very well,” he said. “Of course, there were one or two situations where Brugge broke through, but that’s normal - you can’t defend everything. That’s why we have a strong defensive line and a goalkeeper,” he added with a grin. “We always try to be well-prepared for those moments, and in general, we’re doing that well. But of course, there has to be something left for the coach to talk about.”
With PSG and Arsenal awaiting in the next Champions League fixtures, Neuer knows tougher tests are coming - but his message was one of confidence and momentum: “We’re enjoying our football right now,” he concluded. “That’s what makes us strong.”
