FC Bayern will be without Lennart Karl for the time being as the record champions officially announced on Friday that the talented attacking player has suffered a torn muscle fiber in his right rear thigh
The diagnosis was made following a thorough examination by the medical department. The 18-year-old will therefore be out for an indefinite period and will not be available to Munich in the coming weeks
For Karl, the injury is a bitter blow at a time when he had just started to come back into focus. After his goal against SC Freiburg, the youngster was regarded as one of the big winners in the Bayern squad and had justified hopes of getting more minutes on the pitch
The loss is all the more bitter now – especially in view of the decisive phase of the season in which FC Bayern find themselves in the Bundesliga, the DFB Cup and the Champions League
For coach Vincent Kompany, the injury means the loss of another option in attack for the time being. Karl could have played an important role as a rotation player, especially in an already intensive fixture list with English weeks
The club initially left it open as to exactly how long the 18-year-old will miss, but torn muscle fibers usually mean a break of several weeks
For Karl himself, it is now a matter of getting fit again as quickly as possible and not losing touch. His development this season has shown what potential he has – patience will now be required.
