Kieran Gill’s Chelsea Confidential had an interesting scoop today on the subject of wonderkid Brazilian Estevao Willian, who is set to come to Chelsea this summer.

Shortly after his arrival, both his current team Palmeiras and Chelsea will be facing off in the Club World Cup. There has been some debate about which team he would be playing for, but that’s now been settled. According to Gill, Estevao will be with the “Big Green” for one last tournament:

“Palmeiras insiders have told Confidential that 17-year-old wonderkid Estevao Willian will play for them at this summer’s Club World Cup rather than Chelsea. We asked the Brazilian club via our man on the ground, Josue Seixas,” Gill wrote.

While we can’t wait to see the youngster in Blue, this is quite a fun way of passing him over from one team to another.

Meanwhile on another front there was more interesting information about the Blues’ plans for the youngster.

According to his agent, Andre Cury, the Blues actually have a plan to use the teenager in a new position. In fact, that apparently made up a major part of his decision to pick the Blues over other teams:

“Chelsea was the only club that saw Estêvão as a 10, to play in the midfield. I could be wrong, but we will have the opportunity, I think we will be right, so that also had a lot of weight on the decision”, told Globo.

That’s interesting, as it was only this week that we heard that fellow South American wonderkid arrival Kendry Paez was seen more as an Enzo Fernandez alternative than a winger.

Surely Estevao will at least start his career at Stamford Bridge out wide, given his current skillset and immense success in those areas so far in his career?
