Last week Liverpool had an opening offer knocked back for Yan Diomande.
The RB Leipzig winger, 19, was the subject of a mammoth bid out of Anfield - worth up to €100m to the German Bundesliga side.
Richard Hughes proposed €90m up front with another €10m due as add-ons - but that attempt was knocked back by the UEFA Champions League participants.
It’s been reported in various outlets that Liverpool WILL come back in for the Cote d’Ivoire winger - who could end up costing more than the total £128m due to Borussia Dortmund by Barcelona for the signing of Ousmane Dembele back in 2017.
Red Bull for their part are content to see Diomande’s price being driven upwards. They hold all the cards regarding a deal - considering Diomande is under contract until 2030 and doesn’t have a release clause.
In an idea world for the Bundesliga side they either retain Diomande for another season or else cash in for a German-record sum - leaving plenty of cash in the bank to sign replacements and potential upgrades.
But according to a report in TAG 24 a new key broker has emerged in a deal for Diomande - and one who could scupper Liverpool’s plans to bring in the teenager this summer.
Martin Demichelis left Real Mallorca to become RB Leipzig’s new head coach this week and plans to sit down with sporting director Marcel Schafer to discuss squad building in the near future.
And if the Argentine decides that Diomande should stay then it could for this summer at least kaybosh Liverpool’s plans for a record-breaking winger transfer.
“Red Bull holds the reins due to the contract which does not contain a release clause,” the report on TAG 24 reads.
“Only an even more outrageous sum would likely prompt them to consider a deal at Cottaweg – unless, of course, Demichelis vetoes the offer and sees Diomande as a key component for the upcoming season, which is probably the case.”
Diomande joined RB Leipzig last summer from Leganes in Spain for around €20m - excelling in his first season in German football.
His talent cannot be contained for long at the Red Bull Arena with Europe’s elites - including Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich all interested in concluding a deal.
