New Transfer Candidate? Matthäus Brings DFB Star into the Mix at Bayern | OneFootball

FC Bayern has essentially wrapped up its transfer plans on the incoming side. Nevertheless, Lothar Matthäus is throwing another name into the mix. The all-time leading German international considers DFB defender Yann-Aurel Bisseck an intriguing candidate—but only if there are further personnel changes in Munich’s defense.

With Jonathan Tah, Dayot Upamecano, Minjae Kim, and Hiroki Ito, Bayern is currently well-staffed at center back. However, should anything change in that regard by the end of the transfer window, Matthäus sees a need for action.

In his Sky column, the 64-year-old named the Inter Milan center back as a possible candidate for the record champions.

“Yann-Aurel Bisseck, for example, has just extended his contract with Inter. I think he would be a very interesting player based on the profile we’re looking for,” Matthäus explained.

In the former Bayern pro’s view, the 25-year-old would be a good fit for the record champions given his physicality and profile. However, this would depend on whether center backs such as Minjae Kim and/or Hiroki Ito leave the club.

It became known several weeks ago that the name Bisseck is no stranger at Säbener Straße. According to BILD , Bayern had already inquired about the terms of a potential transfer back in May.

According to the report, Inter Milan signaled a general willingness to negotiate—but only for a transfer fee of around 40 million euros.

In the meantime, a transfer has likely become even more difficult. Just a few days ago, Bisseck extended his contract with the Italian double champions through 2031. In its official statement, Inter described the German national team player as an “outstanding figure in defense” and particularly highlighted his physical presence.

At the moment, however, there are few signs at FC Bayern that they are looking for a new center back. Max Eberl has recently stated on several occasions that no further signings are planned for the time being. Should there still be departures in the defense in the coming weeks, however, the topic could gain momentum once again.
