New York City sign Palmeiras forward Luighi on loan with option to buy | OneFootball

New York City have signed Palmeiras forward Luighi on loan until the end of the year, the MLS club said in a post.

His unveiling on social media played on the likeness between his name and Luigi from Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros franchise.

The agreement includes a US$ 300,000 fee now and an option to buy set at US$ 6 million, with Palmeiras retaining 20% of any future sale.

Luighi is contracted to Palmeiras until December 2029. An academy graduate, he stepped up to the first team in 2024 and made three senior appearances while also featuring for the under-20s.

This season he played in 18 of Palmeiras’ 38 matches, starting four. In total he has made 45 senior appearances.
