Poor display from Newcastle.’

Nat Seaton:

‘There was a missing Monday night ingredient(s) tonight.

The most obvious being the final ball into the box killed off what good moves we did have.

When we did get a chance the finishing was certainly not at its best.

No one played at their best but that doesn’t mean you automatically lose a game.

They took their chances and in the end comfortably took the three points.

A disappointing night, hoping for better things on the road at Palace on Saturday.’

Bazoox:

‘We cannot gain any momentum and St James’ Park is turning into anything but a fortress.

West Ham were certainly up for it and this latest setback at home probably indicates that Newcastle are highly unlikely to trouble the top 5 positions by the end of the season.

I am not anticipating a lot happening in the January window and believe next summer is going to be pivotal as to what direction we are heading in.

We look like we may need a completely new blueprint and turnover in playing personnel.

Bruno Guimaraes looks evermore like being our sacrificial lamb.

Games and results like tonight’s make me really want a brand new stadium all the more.’

‘Really disappointed with that.

My Prediction was 2-0 Toon but I got a bad feeling when I saw how confident everyone else was.

Both West Ham goals came against the run of play and we definitely should have had a penalty.

Fact of the matter however is that we didn’t create enough and collectively had an off day.

Let’s make things right on Saturday!’

‘The highs and lows of following Newcastle United.

We’re left really disappointed tonight after previous highs before the pesky international break – which appears to have checked our precious momentum.

Struggling West Ham given a leg up with a profligate and sloppy display under the floodlights.

We can’t take our chances and West Ham worked us out. It really wasn’t good.

They sat back and profited from a set piece, then a killer moment after the break left us stunned and with a mountain to climb.

Puzzled as to why Joelinton was deployed down the right side.

It’s a case of back to the drawing board. The usual rollercoaster of a season.

West Ham came into this under huge pressure – and we gave them an early Xmas present.

A bad night for us.’

‘Ok, let’s call this right.

We should have had a penalty but West Ham deserved to win.

I love Eddie howe but he’s taken us as far as he can. We need Rafa back.’

‘It’s been a while since I’ve watched a game in total silence.

Outfought, outthought and outclassed all over the pitch.

I thought we reserved games like this for liVARpool.’

‘The proverbial bad day at the office.

Sometimes you have to make your own luck but this evening it well and truly deserted us.

Nothing seemed to fall for us. Nothing seemed to work.

That said, West Ham played well and deserved the three points.

Not great hearing all those ‘oles’ towards the end but we were second best in too many departments this evening.

A missed opportunity to get into the mix. We must win at Palace.’

‘A night that started with such positive energy, ended up the polar opposite.

A second game in a row in which we conceded softly from a set piece, perhaps tonight Dan Burn’s absence contributed.

Despite the early setback Newcastle dominated the play but when they managed to breach a sometimes 9-man back line, they were unable to beat Fabianski or failed to work him entirely.

Howe rolled the dice with a formation change after a very soft second goal but if anything, it lost us control of the play.

A poor start to an important phase of the season.’
