Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has been in fantastic form this season and is once again the centre of attraction for many top clubs in the Premier League.
Arsenal’s interest in the Swedish striker is well-documented, but the Daily Mail reports that Newcastle are confident of fending off interest from them.
The Gunners have been tracking his development since his days at Real Sociedad but opted against signing him before his mega-money move to Newcastle.
Isak has since proven to be a game-changing addition for the Magpies, shrugging off his previously concerning injury record to become one of the most lethal finishers in the Premier League.
He bagged 25 goals in 40 games across all competitions last season.
His 21 Premier League goal tally was only bettered by Chelsea’s Cole Palmer (22) and Manchester City’s Erling Braut Haaland, who won the Golden Boot with 27 league goals.
Isak has shown no signs of slowing down this season. He has already notched ten goals in 15 Premier League games, almost single-handedly spearheading Newcastle’s European charge.
The Swede’s form in front of goal has turned the heads of top clubs, so it’s no surprise that Arsenal are sniffing around the striker.
Newcastle are confident that they can keep him at the club, but their hands may be tied if certain conditions aren’t met.
Isak’s contract runs until 2028, but Newcastle are trying to secure his future with a new deal. However, he has stalled on signing a new deal amid concerns about the club’s progress.
He is keen to play Champions League football on a regular basis.
The Magpies are five points off fourth-placed Nottingham Forest, but their inconsistency could derail their hopes of nicking a spot in the top four.
If Newcastle fail to qualify for the Champions League this season, Isak could look to force a move away from St James’ Park.
Arsenal have already declared an interest and will be ready to pounce, although they might face competition from Barcelona.
The striker is valued at around £62 million on Transfermarkt, but Newcastle will likely hold out for a fee closer to £100m.
