Eddie Howe has responded to widespread reports that Bayern Munich have began talks with Newcastle over a deal for wantaway star Anthony Gordon.

Gordon is expected to assess his options at the end of an underwhelming season for Newcastle, which has seen them go from Champions League qualification last term to flirting with relegation a year on despite heavy spending in the summer.

The player himself has struggled to impress domestically, but performances on the European stage this season - having scored 10 goals in 12 Champions League games - appear to have impressed German giants Bayern amid talk of a £55million bid.

That fee is unlikely to convince Newcastle to part ways with a key player who still has four years to run on his contract - a figure closer to £75m has been suggested by other outlets - but Howe was on Friday unwilling to give assurances over Gordon's future before the end of the season.

"It is difficult for me to comment too much on individual players and timescales, as that is going into an area that isn't really my forte. I will leave that to other people.

"All I am doing is try and finish the season in a strong way and make sure players are committed to the here and now. There is no point looking to the future.

"The summer transfer window is difficult to predict and difficult to see what is going to happen on any level at this moment in time. We have three games to play and our full focus is on that."
