Newcastle United have expressed interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s teenage forward Christian Kofane, as manager Eddie Howe seeks to strengthen the Magpies’ attacking options.

Kofane’s rapid rise in European football has attracted attention from St James’ Park. Standing at 1.89m, the young centre-forward boasts a combination of explosive pace and physical strength—qualities well-suited to the rigours of the Premier League.

After making his mark with Spanish side Albacete, where he scored eight goals in 20 senior appearances, Kofane secured a high-profile move to Germany.

He has since established himself as a first-team option for Leverkusen, recording seven goals and six assists in 44 appearances across all competitions last season.

Following the sale of Alexander Isak to Liverpool, Newcastle brought in Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa. However, both struggled to make an immediate impact, leading to William Osula finishing the 2025/26 campaign as the first-choice striker.

Howe is seeking a dynamic forward capable of pressing aggressively and leading the line independently. Kofane’s ability to link play and his sharp instincts in the box make him a highly attractive option.

Securing the Douala-born striker’s signature will not be straightforward. Kofane is under contract with Leverkusen until June 2029, and they consider him an integral part of their long-term project. The Bundesliga side are expected to demand a significant premium to allow his departure.

After a breakthrough debut season in Germany, 19-year-old Kofane has emerged as a top target for several Premier League clubs, with long-term admirers Arsenal among those actively monitoring his progress.
