Newcastle United are not prepared to renew their interest in signing James Trafford, due to the Manchester City goalkeeper’s wage demands.

Eddie Howe had pushed to sign Trafford from former club Burnley in the summer, but late interest from Manchester City saw the goalkeeper head to the Etihad.

It’s turned out to be a frustrating move for Trafford, who has started just three Premier League games. City signed Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain later in the summer window, condemning Trafford to a back-up role.

Newcastle have been linked with renewing their interest in the 23-year-old. The Magpies signed Aaron Ramsdale on loan from Southampton after missing out on Trafford but remain keen to sign a long-term number one.

However, journalist Craig Hope has claimed that Trafford’s new wage demands, following his move to Manchester City, are a stumbling block.

Newcastle, instead, are looking at a potential move for either Real Sociedad shot-stopper Alex Remiro or Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.
