Newcastle United are likely to miss out on European qualification as they sit 14th in the Premier League table with four games remaining.

There are big question marks over manager Eddie Howe’s future at St James’ Park. Regardless of Howe’s position, the club is set for a major squad overhaul for next season.

According to the i Paper, they are looking to sign a new goalkeeper and have James Trafford, Robin Risser and Bart Verbruggen on their shortlist.

Newcastle retain an interest in Trafford, who rejected them to join Manchester City last summer.

The 23-year-old is keen to play regularly, as Gianluigi Donnarumma is Pep Guardiola’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Risser has had an impressive season for Lens, keeping 10 clean sheets in 30 Ligue 1 appearances.

Verbruggen has established himself as one of the best in his position since joining Brighton & Hove Albion in 2023.

The Duchtman’s performances in the Premier League have also sparked interest from Tottenham Hotspur, who could make a summer move if they avoid relegation.

Signing a new goalkeeper is a priority for Newcastle, with Aaron Ramsdale set to return to Southampton when his loan deal expires.

Newcastle also have Nick Pope in their squad, but he is past his best.
