Newcastle United will be pleased with Sven Botman following his return to form, but the Magpies must also be wary of his contract situation.

The Newcastle star is entering the final 18 months of his contract with the Geordies, and alarm bells are ringing at the Tyneside outfit.

According to The Athletic, his contract case is “the most pressing situation of all, at least as far as some sources inside Newcastle are concerned.”

Botman joined Newcastle three years ago and remains on the same terms. New NUFC sporting director Ross Wilson must prioritise renewing his deal.

The former Lille ace, who earns £112,500 per week, has formed an outstanding partnership with Malick Thiaw.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe believes they can anchor the club’s defence for years to come.

It is worth noting that Botman’s niggling injuries are the primary reason he has not renewed his deal with the club.

However, now that he is playing consistently, it makes sense to accelerate talks over a new contract.

The report also mentions Tino Livramento and Bruno Guimaraes as candidates for contract renewals. The pair have contracts till 2028, but NUFC want to be proactive.

Livramento, who recently returned to training on the grass after a long absence, deserves a contract that reflects his growth in the squad.

He is now an England international and an influential presence in the backline. Newcastle must give him a new contract soon to ward off interest from clubs like Manchester City.

As for Guimaraes, reports from Brazil suggest he is in talks with the club, which wants to keep their captain. His latest deal was signed just two years ago.

Elsewhere, Kieran Trippier is in the final year of his deal with the Magpies, and despite being a mainstay in the starting XI, next summer might see him leave the club.

Wilson might still decide to give the experienced 35-year-old a new, short-term deal to keep him around.
