In a recent report, RMC Sport claimed that Newcastle United are in the mix to land Chelsea defender Axel Disasi this summer. It is believed that the Magpies would have to rival Villarreal in the race to sign the French centre-back this off-season.

Disasi’s Recent Form In English Football

Disasi enjoyed a solid campaign in English football recently after he put in a series of impressive displays in the Premier League. The 27-year-old scored two times and earned two assists in 27 matches for both Chelsea and Aston Villa (on loan) last season across multiple competitions.

The French talent needs to earn regular playing minutes if he wants to improve as a defender. Hence, a switch to Newcastle would be ideal for Disasi at this stage of his playing career as he would have a better chance of earning regular first-team football.

His current contract at Stamford Bridge will expire in the summer of 2029. Hence, the Magpies would have to make a sizable offer if they are serious about recruiting Disasi this off-season.

Will Disasi Be A Good Choice For Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe?

Disasi is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to secure possession back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and is an accurate passer of the ball.

The French talent can even use his strong 1.91m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. Disasi is primarily a central defender but can also fill in as a right-back if required. However, he needs to play regularly if he wants to prove his worth as a consistent performer in the Premier League.

We can expect Disasi to bring more bite and steel to Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe’s defence. He is good enough to serve as a useful, rotational piece in the Tyneside club’s match-day squad.

At 27, Disasi is about to enter the peak stage of his career which makes him a decent choice for the Magpies to pursue in this summer transfer window. He might even help Newcastle compete across all fronts in the coming years. Therefore, it makes sense for Howe to move in for Disasi soon.
