Kelly’s journey over the last twelve months has been nothing short of a whirlwind. After originally arriving at Newcastle on a free transfer from Bournemouth, his stint under Eddie Howe was cut remarkably short when Italian giants Juventus swooped in to complete a lucrative deal that saw him head to Serie A.

While his early days in Turin drew heavily mixed reviews from the demanding Bianconeri faithful, Kelly ultimately carved out a significant role for himself in Italy. He made 35 league appearances during the 2025-26 Serie A campaign, predominantly on the left side of a back three.

Despite his heavy involvement last season, Juventus are reportedly open to doing business this summer as they look to reshape their squad.

The Italian giants have placed a €30 million price tag on the ‘brilliant’ 27-year-old centre-back. That valuation represents a healthy profit on the initial fee Juve paid to secure his services from Newcastle.

For Newcastle United, the interest in a reunion is largely down to manager Eddie Howe, who is a long-term admirer of Kelly, having originally signed him for Bournemouth back in 2019 before bringing him to Tyneside in 2024.

Newcastle’s defensive unit suffered from depth issues at times last season, and the recruitment team is eager to add reliable cover capable of playing multiple positions.

However, Newcastle will not have a free run at the defender. Fellow Premier League outfit Nottingham Forest are also keeping a close eye on Kelly’s situation, while newly-promoted Ipswich Town, led by Kelly’s former Bournemouth manager, Gary O’Neil, have also been heavily credited with interest.
