Over in Italy it has been reported that Newcastle United have made an approach for Manu Kone.

However, TMW say their information is that AS Roma have knocked back Newcastle’s interest.

Manu Kone is a 24 year old defensive midfielder who plays for France, as well as the Serie A side.

He started his club career with Toulouse before spending a few years with Borussia Monchengladbach, before then signing for AS Roma in a £15m deal in summer 2024, an initial loan with a commitment to buy.

TMW report that a number of clubs have been pursuing Manu Kone and that AS Roma rejected an earlier approach this summer from Inter Milan.

The 24 year old is on a five year contact that isn’t due to end until June 2029 and it is reported that he is on a current salary of €2.8m (approx £2.45m), around £50,000 a week. However, AS Roma looking to tie him up on an enhanced longer deal.

AS Roma had three different managers last season but still managed to finish fifth in the league.

This season they have been a surprise package and currently are top of Serie A.

Manu Kone has played every single minute of the 12 league matches that have seen them end up in top spot.

There have been ongoing rumours of Newcastle United looking to add a midfielder in January, with exciting prospect 19 year old Kees Smit of AZ Alkmaar reported to be high on Eddie Howe’s wish list, whilst claims on Wednesday that Joe Willock is a January target for Crystal Palace.
