Craig Hope at The Mail says that there has been a major step forward this week, with the striker training alongside his Newcastle United teammates for the first time,

The man from The Mail saying that yesterday (Wednesday 26 November 2025) Yoane Wissa was involved as part of the group.

After a number of delays during his recovery from the posterior cruciate ligament injury picked up on international duty, this new report saying that there has been major relief at the training ground to see the striker able to finally get out training with the rest of the players.

As Eddie Howe has repeatedly said, he wants to make absolutely sure that Yoane Wissa is as prepared and fit as humanly possibly, before risking a return to playing.

The Mail report saying that if all goes according to plan, Wissa could be ready to be involved by the time the derby match against Sunderland comes around on Sunday 14 December.

These are the upcoming eight Newcastle United matches; Everton (A) 29 November, Spurs (H) 2 December, Burnley (H) 6 December, Bayer Leverkusen (A) 10 December, Sunderland (A) 14 Deember, Fulham (H) 17 December, Chelsea (H) 20 December and Man U (A) 26 December.

Difficult to imagine Eddie Howe risking Yoane Wissa in a derby against the Mackems, even off the bench, So if this kind of timescale proved accurate, I would have though Wissa playing some part in the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Fulham on Wednesday 17 December would sound more likely.

On the negative side of things, this report from The Mail says that the understanding is that Kieran Trippier could be out for up to four weeks.

It had previously been reported as a minor hamstring injury keeping the England international out of these last two games but Craig Hope says that he has heard that it is slightly more serious than that, with a three or four week absence entailing.

The report states that the strain was picked up in training last Friday (21 November), so four weeks would take us up to around the Fulham cup match and the Chelsea Premier League game that follows.

Trippier has missed two games already and with seven more in these three weeks ahead of Christmas, being still involved in so many competitions means you can miss a lot of matches if out injured for even a relatively short space of time.
