Sheffield United sold Will Osula to Newcastle in the 2024 summer transfer window

Newcastle United will only sell Will Osula in January if they sign a young forward to replace him amid Sheffield United’s sell-on clause.

According to The Athletic, the 22-year-old will depart the Magpies in 2026, but the Championship side may have to wait until the summer before receiving their part of the deal.

Osula made the switch from Bramall Lane to the Premier League club in the 2024 summer transfer window in a deal worth a reported £15 million.

The Yorkshire outfit received £10 million up front, along with another £5 million potentially due in add-ons.

However, the striker has struggled for game time in Eddie Howe’s side, making just one start from 24 appearances in the Premier League, scoring only two goals in that time.

Sheffield United’s Will Osula sell-on clause

It is understood that Newcastle will only cash in on potential Osula interest in January if they can secure a deal to replace him with another young forward.

Sheffield United confirmed the existence of a sell-on clause in their deal with the Tyneside outfit when he was sold, although they neglected to mention its value.

German club Eintracht Frankfurt are believed to be interested in Osula after they previously monitored the player last summer.

But it remains to be seen whether a deal can be agreed, or if Newcastle can secure the signing of another forward.

Frankfurt are eyeing a loan deal in January with an option to make it a permanent switch in the long run, with Florian Plettenberg reporting earlier this week that terms have been agreed between the club and the player.

It’s been claimed that the Bundesliga outfit are considering a €3 (£2.6) million loan fee with a €20 (£17.5) million buy option.

Sheffield United are currently 19th in the Championship table, and will face Stoke City on 6 December in their next fixture.

Will Osula sell-on fee in January would be a boost for Sheffield United

Given Frankfurt are seeking a loan with an option to buy, and Newcastle aren’t yet committed to a sale at all, it’s unlikely Sheffield United will receive any sell-on fee in January.

It would be a great boost for Chris Wilder if a big fee does arrive for the forward, as it could help him to improve the first team squad at Bramall Lane.

There’s no doubt that the Blades will want to be active in the winter market given their lowly Championship position, so extra funds coming in would aid that.
