Newcastle United midfielder withdraws from international squad due to injury | OneFootball

An official announcement from The FA has revealed that Newcastle United midfielder Lewis Miley has withdrawn from the England Under 21s squad due to injury.

The Young Lions have a pair of U21s European Championship group qualifiers this month.

In Miley’s absence they won 4-0 last night in Moldova and then play Monday at home against Andorra.

Craig Hope of The Mail has also reported on Miley withdrawing from the England Under 21s squad.

He says his information is that the Newcastle United midfielder has a small issue with his calf and has withdrawn from the England U21 squad as a precaution. The journalist adding that by taking this action, it is hoped Lewis Miley won’t be ruled out of any Newcastle matches and will be in the squad for Brighton away next Saturday.

‘Crystal Palace’s Romaine Esse and Brighton & Hove Albion’s Tom Watson have been added to the England MU21 squad ahead of this evening’s 2027 U21 EURO qualifier in Moldova.

However, Newcastle United’s Lewis Miley will play no part having withdrawn through injury.

Both Esse and Watson made their MU21 debuts in Kazakhstan last month.

Tonight’s qualifier in Chișinău (5pm UK time kick-off) is being streamed live on YouTube here.

Lee Carsley’s squad then welcome Andorra to Derby County’s Pride Park on Monday 13 October (7.45pm kick-off).’

Anthony Gordon with an excellent first half, as did most of his teammates. England roared into a 3-0 lead after only 20 minutes and then as the game went on, they coasted to victory and countless subs made. Gordon the only one of the front six to play the full game, whilst Dan Burn an unused sub.

A world class assist from Bruno Guimaraes setting up Estevao to score the opener in this friendly. Joelinton remaining on the bench for the entirety of the game, Bruno subbed off on 79 minutes.

An excellent team performance with Nick Woltemade leading the line for Germany.

The Newcastle United striker didn’t score himself but led the line so well, with link up play and his all round game helping to deliver a commanding victory in this World Cup group qualifier.

Sweden 0 Switzerland 2

Newcastle’s Anthony Elanga watching on from the bench as this must win World Cup group qualifier ended in defeat.

Sweden standing next to no chance now of appearing at the 2026 finals.

With three group games still left to play, Sweden eight points behind Switzerland.
