The Newcastle United owners have now made it absolutely clear, there is zero chance of Alexander Isak leaving in this summer transfer window.
Tuesday night brought more dramatic twists that took the situation to another level.
Alexander Isak making a public statement (see below) via social media insisting that he must leave the club this summer as it is; ‘…in the best interests of everyone.’
Whilst the football club swiftly responded with a statement (also see below) of their own, saying that no promises had been made that the striker could leave this summer AND that he wouldn’t be leaving before the 7pm transfer deadline on Monday 1 September 2025.
Whilst the club’s public statement was very restrained last night, what has then followed has shown just how much worse Alexander Isak has made the situation for himself.
Here I have picked out excerpts from the most reliable journalists who cover Newcastle United, as they write about the fallout of Tuesday night’s events.
All three of these journalists have been briefed by those within the club, with an absolute final message now regarding how the Newcastle United owners feel about the Alexander Isak situation.
If there was even a remote chance of Isak leaving in these 12 or so remaining days of the summer 2025 transfer window, that has now gone for sure. On top of that, the trio of journalists also revealing the clear fury of the Newcastle United owners and no doubt Eddie Howe as well, after Alexander Isak made this very desperate new attempt to force his move on the cheap to Liverpool.
George Caulkin of The Athletic – 19 August 2025:
‘In attempting to force through a move, the centre-forward has hardened the club’s position.
The initial response from the top at Newcastle was to dig in further. With the end of the transfer window racing towards them, there is no longer an obvious replacement for Isak, let alone the two strikers they would need if his departure was sanctioned (they played without an established centre-forward at Villa Park last weekend). A lack of money has not been their issue, but rather a lack of options. As they said in their own statement, “The conditions of a sale this summer have not transpired.”
For now, they are insisting that Isak stays: “We do not foresee those conditions being met.” In private, their mood has hardened, which may not quite be what Isak and his camp intended. There has been frustration at Isak’s stance, the influence of his representatives and irritation with the nature of Liverpool’s pursuit, but there was a longer, calmer game to be played. Behind the diplomacy of the public insistence that Isak remains “part of our family and will be welcomed back when he is ready to rejoin his teammates,” there is also fury.
Ahead of a fixture which was always going to be on the toxic side of lively, Isak might just have made things worse for everybody but that includes himself. Because more than ever, Newcastle insist he is going nowhere. And where would that leave him, aside from alone?’
Luke Edwards of The Telegraph – 19 August 2025:
‘Newcastle United are adamant Alexander Isak will not be allowed to leave despite the striker going public with his desire to depart this summer, claiming promises have been “broken” and “trust is lost”.
It was the final, desperate move left for a player who is seeing his chances of forcing a move to Liverpool fade as Newcastle cannot sign the two strikers they need to sanction his departure.
But Newcastle’s response was firm and decisive, insisting no promises had been given and they did not “foresee” any circumstances in which their terms for his sale would be met in this transfer window.
A senior Newcastle source told Telegraph Sport on Tuesday, “there was no chance at all” Isak would be sold, echoing off the record briefings we have reported all summer.
The (Alexander Isak) statement infuriated the Newcastle board – who told the player he was not leaving several weeks ago, and they responded with a powerful statement of their own.’
Craig Hope of The Mail – 19 August 2025:
‘The message is that NUFC’s stance has hardened tonight. Isak’s statement has not been well received, especially after summer in which they’ve clearly explored “the conditions of a sale” & considered his wishes
Sources close to the situation believe his bombshell statement, released on Tuesday night, is the striker’s response to a growing realisation that the door has been closing on his dream transfer.
But what it has achieved, Daily Mail Sport has been told, is that it will now slam that door shut from Newcastle United’s perspective. The statement has not been well received.
But while this statement feels like him clutching at straws, there is a likelihood it proves to be the one that broke the camel’s back from the standpoint of his club – they will not be bulled into a sale.
In a summer of many missteps from the player and his camp, this could be the biggest of all.’
Alexander Isak statement via social media – 19 August 2025:
“I’m proud to be recognised by my fellow professionals with a place in the PFA Premier League Team of the Season for 2024/25.
“First and foremost, I want to thank my teammates and everyone at Newcastle United who has supported me along the way.
“I’m not at the ceremony tonight.
“With everything going on, it didn’t feel right to be there.
“I’ve kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken.
“That silence has allowed people to push their own version of events, even though they know it doesn’t reflect what was really said and agreed behind closed doors.
“The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time.
“To now act as if these issues are only emerging is misleading.
“When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue.
“That’s where things are for me right now – and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself.
“Alexander Isak.”
Newcastle United official statement in response to Alexander Isak social media post – 19 August 2025:
‘We are disappointed to have been alerted to a social media post by Alexander Isak this evening.
We are clear in response that Alex remains under contract and that no commitment has ever been made by a club official that Alex can leave Newcastle United this summer.
We want to keep our best players, but we also understand players have their own wishes and we listen to their views.
As explained to Alex and his representatives, we must always take into consideration the best interests of Newcastle United, the team and our supporters in all decisions and we have been clear that the conditions of a sale this summer have not transpired.
