PSG’s next opponent in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League will be Barcelona on October 1. Moreover, both sides are coming into this contest off wins, with the Parisians defeating Atalanta while the Spanish club secured a road win over Newcastle United.

Despite missing Désiré Doué and Ousmane Dembélé for their Matchday 1 clash against Atlanta on Wednesday night, the Parisians were firing on all cylinders. PSG put two goals on the board in each half, cruising to a convincing 4-0 victory.

Meanwhile, Barcelona, behind a brace from Marcus Rashford, defeated Newcastle 2-1 on Thursday night. Furthermore, the Magpies are one club that will have faced Barcelona and PSG. The Premier League club will face the Parisians later in the league phase on January 28, 2026.

Are Barcelona and PSG Among Europe’s Best?

Newcastle standout Anthony Gordon made a PSG admission after the Premier League side fell to the La Liga side.

“Barcelona must be one of the top three teams in the world, one the best teams I have ever faced,” Gordon said post-match. “I don’t think we’ll face a better team. Perhaps a similar level, like PSG.”

Additionally, Barcelona got a heads-up from Atalanta manager Ivan Juric, who warned the Spanish club—and everyone on PSG’s Champions League group-stage schedule—about what to expect from last season’s treble winners.

“The difference was huge,” Juric told Sky Italia. “They are on a much higher level than us (…) Should we have been more cautious? We studied PSG’s games closely. The teams that tried that didn’t even give themselves a chance and ended up losing even worse.

“The only teams that really hurt Paris were Strasbourg and Lens, teams that tried to win the ball back quickly and counter fast. We chose that approach.”
