Brighton & Hove Albion travel to St. James’ Park on Saturday, aiming to solidify their grip on sixth place with a win over struggling Newcastle United.
Fabian Hurzeler’s side are currently the most in-form team in the Premier League. They have collected 13 points from their last 15 available. Meanwhile, Newcastle United are desperate to arrest a damaging slump after four consecutive league defeats. Eddie Howe’s men have failed to find much rhythm since their heavy European exit earlier this season.
A victory for the Seagulls would provide significant daylight in a crowded race for European qualification. They currently top a form table based on results since late February. That said, Newcastle have historically found some success in this fixture at home. They have won two of their last three meetings with Brighton on Tyneside. However, those remain their only two Premier League victories over the visitors in 17 attempts.
Bruno Guimaraes is fit to start after appearing unscathed against Arsenal following his recent injury. Joelinton is also back for the Magpies after serving a yellow-card suspension. Eddie Howe is optimistic that Anthony Gordon will recover from a minor groin problem. However, Fabian Schar, Tino Livramento, and Emil Krafth remain sidelined through injury. Aaron Ramsdale could be reinstated in goal after Nick Pope narrowly avoided a red card last weekend.
The visitors continue to be without Adam Webster, Stefanos Tzimas, and Diego Gomez due to knee injuries. James Milner is also expected to miss the trip against his former club. Mats Wieffer should keep his place in midfield despite being substituted early against Chelsea. Solly March is nearing a return but a start remains out of the question for the winger.
Newcastle have lost sixteen Premier League games this season, with seven defeats coming at home. They have dropped a league-high twenty-five points from winning positions this term. The Magpies have also conceded nineteen goals in the final fifteen minutes of games. Their scoring streak ended last weekend in a narrow 1–0 defeat at the Emirates.
Brighton have won nineteen points from their last eight matches to soar into sixth place. They have scored at least twice in each of their last four top-flight games. The Seagulls are unbeaten in their last six matches against Newcastle since late 2021. They have also picked up ten points from their last four away fixtures.
Newcastle United Predicted XI: Ramsdale; Miley, Thiaw, Botman, Hall; Guimaraes, Tonali, Joelinton; Barnes, Osula, Gordon
Brighton & Hove Albion Predicted XI: Verbruggen; Wieffer, Van Hecke, Boscagli, Kadioglu; Baleba, Gross; Minteh, Hinshelwood, Mitoma; Welbeck
