St. James’ Park is the setting for a crucial fixture on Saturday as a winless Newcastle United take on a struggling Wolves side.
For the home side, a record of two draws and a defeat has created early pressure to perform, but the history suggests this is an ideal opportunity.
Newcastle have a dominant record in this fixture, having remarkably found the net in every single one of their 20 Premier League meetings with Wolves.
Eddie Howe has received a significant boost with the return of midfielder Joelinton, who is fit again after a hip injury. His presence will add power to the midfield. Howe must, however, cope without the suspended Anthony Gordon and the injured Jacob Ramsey. Furthermore, hopes of a debut for Yoane Wissa have been dashed, as he has been ruled out with a knock picked up on international duty.
These absences in attack open the door for a potential debut for Nick Woltemade. The German striker arrives with a strong goalscoring record from the Bundesliga. Consequently, there will be a great deal of expectation on him and Harvey Barnes to provide the clinical edge that has been missing from Newcastle’s play so far this season.
Newcastle United predicted XI: Pope; Livramento, Schar, Burn, Hall; Bruno Guimaraes, Tonali, Joelinton; Murphy, Woltemade, Barnes
The Premier League fixture will be played at St. James’ Park on Saturday, 13 September 2025, with kick-off scheduled for 3 pm BST.
The match will not be broadcast live in the UK due to the 3pm blackout. Live text commentary and updates will be available via BBC Sport.
