Chelsea legend tipped to leave Coventry despite Premier League promotion

Frank Lampard is the new front-runner to become replace Oliver Glasner as Crystal Palace manager, according to bookmakers.

The Coventry City boss and Chelsea legend has been linked with a return to London this summer, with Glasner having departed after guiding Palace to victory over Rayo Vallecano in the Conference League final.

Standard Sport previously reported that Andoni Iraola was the Eagles’ preferred target to replace Glasner, but have now turned their focus to Lampard following developments at Liverpool.

On Saturday afternoon it was announced that Liverpool had parted company with Slot after two seasons and bookmakers quickly suspended bets on Iraola taking over at Anfield.

That development appears to have caused a chain reaction with BetVictor revealing that Lampard's odds of making the move to Selhurst Park have been slashed.

A spokesperson said: "Frank Lampard is now the new front-runner to replace Oliver Glasner at Crystal Palace with the Coventry City boss currently 10/11 having been 3/1 as of yesterday to take on the hot seat at Selhurst Park.

"The change in the market comes with Andoni Iraola reportedly the favourite to replace Arne Slot at Liverpool after the Dutchman was sacked by the Anfield club earlier on Saturday."

As things stand, Lens boss Pierre Sage follows behind Lampard at 9/4 and then former Eintracht Frankfurt coach Dino Toppmoller is the third favourite at 5/2.

Gareth Southgate, Thomas Frank, Robbie Keane and Roger Schmidt have also been tipped by bookmakers, as has Jose Bordalas.

Frank Lampard has guided Coventry City back into the Premier League

Coventry owner Doug King told BBC Sport last month that he expected there to be interest in Lampard’s services this summer as the club prepare for their Premier League return.

“Of course [I want to keep him,” King told The Football Boardroom Podcast.

“Frank knows how I think of him. He is a very skilled operator, and he has taken and developed our team to the Championship title with no parachute payments.

“Everybody wants what they want, and I will look at the situation, and I hope he will be with us into the next adventure that we have taken in the Premier League, because I think he enjoys working in that environment.”

“I think he has done a great job, and I am sure as we move forward, we will have conversations about the situation.”
