Neymar has ended talks with FC Cincinnati over a move starting in 2027, according to The Athletic.
The report said he was frustrated by the slow pace of discussions and that Cincinnati never made a formal offer. It added he remains open to playing in MLS for another club if the situation is right.
Neymar is under contract with Santos until the end of 2026 and can sign a pre-contract with another team from 30 June.
Earlier this year he said in an interview that there is even a possibility he could retire next year. In April, Santos president Marcelo Teixeira said he was unaware of Cincinnati’s interest and reiterated the club’s wish for him to see out his deal.
For Santos this year he has played 15 matches, scoring six goals with four assists. He made his World Cup debut for Brazil this year on Wednesday, coming on in the second half of the win over Scotland.
In recent seasons MLS clubs have invested in high-profile internationals, including Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez, both at Inter Miami.
