Neymar’s brief return to Santos’ CT Rei Pelé on Sunday morning ended with him leaving without taking part in training, hours after the 2-2 draw with Chapecoense in the Brasileirão.

According to Globo.com, he departed of his own accord and did not have permission to leave early, which went against the coaching staff’s plan.

All starters remained for recovery work, while the attacking midfielder spent only a few minutes on site, had breakfast, took photos, then went home without joining the session.

Club directors attended the CT to establish what happened, particularly after Saturday night, when Neymar was said to have been too forceful in his criticisms of João Ananias and Gabriel Bontempo, which upset much of the squad.

Players who featured for under 45 minutes worked through technical, then tactical drills, starting preparations for the early week Conmebol Sul-Americana fixture.

On Tuesday at 21:30 Brasília time, Santos host Universidad Central da Venezuela at Vila Belmiro, aiming to seal a place in the last 16.

Having won 4-1 away, Santos can lose by up to two goals and still progress. Neymar may be left out, as Cuca will probably rest some players with Remo in the Copa do Brasil in mind.
