Neymar not travelling with Brazil for World Cup match against Haiti | OneFootball

The Brazilian football federation announced on Thursday 18 that Neymar will not travel with the squad to Philadelphia for the Group C second-round match against Haiti at the World Cup.

The no. 10 will remain in New Jersey to continue the final phase of his recovery, using facilities at The Ridge hotel and CT de Columbia Park for a programme set by the national team’s medical staff.

The decision had been considered likely behind the scenes. Although he rejoined parts of training this week and no longer has clinical issues in his right calf, he still needs to rebuild fitness and match rhythm after almost a month without work on the pitch.

On Tuesday 16 he returned to ball work on the field for the first time since the injury. On Wednesday 17 he joined the warm-up with team-mates, who applauded him, before completing specific physical exercises separately.

The coaching staff expect him to progress to tactical sessions from Sunday 21. If his recovery continues as planned, Neymar could be available to Carlo Ancelotti for the Scotland game on Wednesday 24, the third group fixture.
