According to Globo.com, CBF doctor Rodrigo Lasmar has diagnosed Neymar with a grade two calf injury, ruling him out of Brazil’s World Cup warm-up friendlies and leaving him likely to miss the opener.

Lasmar said the forward reported to Granja Comary in Teresópolis on Thursday, where tests including an MRI showed a grade two calf issue rather than simple oedema, with an estimated recovery time of two to three weeks.

Neymar will stay with the national team for treatment and, for now, will not be cut.

The findings differ from Santos’ prior update to the CBF. Club doctor Rodrigo Zogaib had said the problem was only oedema and that Neymar would arrive ready to start training on 27, which did not happen.

On this schedule, he could be available between 11 and 18 June. He will miss friendlies against Panama at the Maracanã on Sunday 31 and against Egypt on 6 June in Cleveland, United States.

If the quicker two-week scenario holds, he would return only on 11 June, two days before Brazil’s opener against Morocco on 13 June. The second group match is against Haiti on 19 June. Under 2026 World Cup rules, final squads are due on 1 June, with replacements for serious injury or illness allowed up to 24 hours before the tournament’s first match.
