Harry Maguire outmuscled Manchester City players in both boxes, helping Manchester United record a dominant 2-0 derby win.
Maguire lifted the crowd by rattling the woodwork early in the game with a bullet header. At the back, his front-foot defending kept Erling Haaland quiet.
Despite his injury struggles, the 32-year-old has enjoyed a solid campaign and was impressive under former head coach Ruben Amorim as well. However, he is facing an uncertain future at United.
Harry Maguire has entered the final six months of his contract at Manchester United. As things stand, the club’s most expensive defender will leave on a free transfer in the summer.
Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Michael Carrick has “slammed the door shut” on a potential January exit for Maguire, who has attracted interest from AC Milan and Inter.
At the same time, United have seemingly started a search for his long-term replacement. Nottingham Forest central defender Murillo is thought to be high on their wishlist. He is valued at £70 million.
According to Defensa Central, United are among the clubs tracking Borussia Dortmund defensive leader Nico Schlotterbeck.
Schlotterbeck is known for his exceptional on-ball ability and positional awareness. The 6’3” star has amassed over 140 appearances for Dortmund.
The German defender will enter the final year of his contract with the Bundesliga giants in the summer.
However, the Spanish outlet claims that the 26-year-old has reached an agreement with Dortmund over a new contract that includes a €60m release clause for the summer of 2027. Furthermore, under the terms of his new deal, he will earn around €14m per year.
This would be a major boost for the likes of United and Real Madrid, as it is suggested that Dortmund could raise the Germany international’s price-tag to €100m without a release clause.
That being said, Los Blancos are currently his strongest suitors, and United’s interest appears to be exploratory.
