Nico Schlotterbeck reacts to rumors of Dortmund contract renewal amid links to Madrid and Barcelona | OneFootball

In the last few months, FC Barcelona have been linked with several defenders as they look to reinforce the center-back position in the upcoming summer transfer window.

One of the names who was linked with them some time ago was the Borussia Dortmund center-back Nico Schlotterbeck, who was also linked with Real Madrid, as his contract is expiring in the summer of 2027.

However, last week, the German newspaper Bild reported that now his renewal talks with Dortmund are on track, and both parties have practically reached an agreement to extend his contract till 2031.

But, as SPORT has reported, the defender himself has refuted these recent reports, as he revealed that a renewal deal was not yet close to being agreed upon, while talking to the media after the game between Germany and Ghana.

Schlotterbeck also opened up on how personnel changes at the club have impacted these negotiations:

“I negotiated with Sebastian for a long time. Sebastian is no longer here. Now Ole is my point of contact, along with Lars. That’s why I was looking forward to your question. But what you are saying is absolutely not true.”

The defender once again reiterated that a renewal is not yet close:

It remains to be seen how the future of Nico Schlotterbeck would pan out as he continues to negotiate a renewal with the German club. Meanwhile, Barcelona are also linked with other defenders, most notably Alessandro Bastoni, as they look committed to reinforcing the center-back position this summer.
