According to Glorioso 1904, Nicolás Otamendi is weighing up his next move as he enters the final month of his Benfica contract, reviewing offers that could keep him at Benfica or take him elsewhere.

The report says the Benfica captain has looked at a possible return to Argentina with River Plate, who are said to have pushed hardest in recent months to land the number 30.

It also states Benfica want to keep Otamendi, aiming to have him in José Mourinho’s squad for 2026/27 as his deal runs down.

In recent days, the report noted initial contact from River Plate over a potential return. Asked about the situation, José Mourinho said in his pre-match press conference that the decision rests with his captain.

This season Otamendi, valued at 1 million euros, has played 46 competitive matches for Benfica, totalling 4,079 minutes and three goals. His tally includes 27 in Liga Portugal Betclic, 14 in the Champions League, two in the Taça de Portugal, two in the Taça da Liga and one in the Supertaça.
