The club announced on Wednesday that Nicolas Rabuel, 48, is the new FBBP 01 head coach on a one-year deal with an option, succeeding David Le Frapper after his departure was confirmed on Saturday.
The appointment follows a busy spell in the market, with seven signings already unveiled. Rabuel arrives with assistant Murtala Sacko, previously at Beauvais, who has worked with Sébastien Piocelle, Bourg-en-Bresse’s new director of football. The rest of the backroom staff remains unchanged.
Born in Bourg-en-Bresse, Rabuel grew up in Mézériat and joined Lyon aged 10 and a half. A former left-back, he played from the CFA up to Ligue 1, featuring for Boulogne-sur-Mer in 2009-2010.
His playing career took in eight clubs: Lyon, Angoulême, Nancy, Louhans-Cuiseaux, Rouen, Cannes, Nîmes and Boulogne-sur-Mer, before an early move into coaching after a serious back injury.
He then spent years at Valenciennes, overseeing youth development and serving as assistant between 2015 and 2022. He became head coach the following season in Ligue 2, before being dismissed in April 2023.
Since 2024 he had been in charge of Épinal in National 2. Rabuel had been in contention for the Bourg-Péronnas job two years ago before the club chose Le Frapper, and he now takes charge of the Blues.
