Defender Nigel Lonwijk has left Wolves, completing a permanent switch to Israeli Premier League side Maccabi Haifa. The 23-year-old’s departure brings his stint at the club to a close.
Wolves’ technical director Matt Jackson said the move suits all parties with a year left on Lonwijk’s contract, adding that the club will retain future financial interest alongside immediate remuneration. He praised the defender’s progress through a strong loan pathway and his professionalism, noting added family responsibilities.
Lonwijk did not make a senior appearance for Wolves. He had six loan spells and featured in several pre-season camps, including the club’s trip to Portugal this summer.
The deal is worth £500,000, and Wolves hold a 25 per cent sell-on clause. He was not in the squad for the mid-week friendly win over Maidenhead.
His Wolves spell lasted six and a half years after arriving from PSV Eindhoven in January 2020. He initially played for the under-18s before progressing through the academy.
