Nigeria complete Portugal’s pre-World Cup 2026 friendly schedule

The Portuguese Football Federation today announced that Nigeria will be the final opponents the Seleção face ahead of their journey across the Atlantic Ocean to compete in FIFA World Cup 2026.
Portugal have played Nigeria only once before, also in a friendly match in preparation for an upcoming World Cup.
In November 2022 the Seleção beat the African nation 4-0 in Lisbon thanks to a brace from Bruno Fernandes and further goals by Gonçalo Ramos and João Mário.
The choice of opponents was no doubt influenced by events earlier in the week.
On Tuesday the Democratic Republic of Congo booked their place in the tournament after beating Jamaica in their intercontinental play-off.
The central African country will be Portugal’s first Group K opponents, one week after the Nigeria game.
