As they are not participating in the FIFA Club World Cup and do not have any footballing commitments left for the 2024-25 season, FC Barcelona are fully focused on strengthening their team for the upcoming 2025-26 season.

For this purpose, the Catalans are looking to reinforce several areas of their team, with the goalkeeping and the left wing positions their highest priorities.

Meanwhile, the Blaugranes have also not lost sight of promising young talents that can go on to become top-class players in the years to come. In this regard, they have been closely linked with the Portuguese winger Cardoso Varela. The player’s agent was recently seen at the Barcelona offices.

But for now, Mundo Deportivo claims that the youngster has renewed his contract with Dinamo Zagreb for another two years. Varela had previously signed a contract till June 2025 with Dinamo last February, but the Croatian club had kept an option to extend this contract by another two years, and today, they have exercised this option.

This new contract also promises Varela the opportunity to play with their first team. However, this renewal does not alter the plan that Barcelona had drawn up with Dinamo.

All three involved parties are intending to help the winger end up at Barcelona. But as Barca Atletic was relegated this season, it would be better for the player’s development to play in the Dinamo first team.

Barcelona will sign the forward next year

In fact, the two clubs have already agreed on the transfer fees. The Catalans will pay €5 million fixed, and another €20 million in variables depending on how Varela plays with the first team.

Under the plan agreed between the two sides, Barcelona can sign the forward next summer under these terms. For now, they will be hoping that Cardoso  Varela takes advantage of playing at such a high level and continues to showcase his level.
