Arsenal registered a stunning 5-1 Premier League win over Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium last weekend.
The Gunners delivered a superb performance in front of their fans, and there were several stand-out performers.
Declan Rice was brilliant with a couple of assists, while David Raya made two crucial saves during the opening half.
Kai Havertz squandered a golden scoring opportunity but still impressed with a goal and an assist in the City rout.
Thomas Partey was also terrific in the number six role. He scored the all-important second goal with the help of a deflection.
In defence, Gabriel Magalhaes was rock-solid as usual. Myles Lewis-Skelly was exceptional.
The 18-year-old scored his maiden senior goal and was also excellent with his defensive awareness.
Troy Deeney has now picked Raya, Lewis-Skelly & Partey in his Team of the Week for BBC Sport.
The former Watford striker said that Raya made some ‘big saves’ to keep Arsenal in the game.
He added that Lewis-Skelly has become the ‘talk of the town’ and loved his celebration.
Deeney also highlighted that Partey does all of the ‘horrible work’ on the pitch that ‘no one really sees’ and praised him for intercepting Phil Foden before finding the net.
Arsenal had to beat City to stay in the title race. They remain six points behind leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand at Everton to be played next week.
The Gunners’ immediate focus should turn to the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.
Arsenal have a 2-0 deficit to Newcastle United after the first leg at home. They must overturn the scoreline to reach the League Cup final for the first time since 2018.
Mikel Arteta’s side have momentum ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Tyneside, but it won’t be easy against the Magpies, who are usually difficult to beat at St James’ Park.
