Commentator Adam Pope has insisted that Leeds United simply cannot let goalkeeper Lucas Perri leave this summer before signing a replacement.

Leeds signed Perri from Lyon as their first-choice goalkeeper last summer and he made an impressive start to life at Elland Road.

However, an injury halted his progress and he eventually lost his place to experienced goalkeeper Karl Darlow, making his final league appearance in early January, with Daniel Farke’s faith in him seemingly lost.

With Darlow having joined Manchester United on a free transfer and Illan Meslier signing for Premier League champions Arsenal, Leeds have been left short of options in goal.

Despite that, Farke is not expected to turn to Perri, leaving the Brazilian on course to leave Elland Road this summer, with Serie A side Torino interested in signing him.

It was recently suggested that Leeds and Torino have yet to agree on the structure of a deal for the Brazilian, with the proposed formula proving a stumbling block.

The 28-year-old goalkeeper has not yet requested a transfer from Elland Road, suggesting he is not looking to force a move, but the Brazilian wants regular game time.

It was recently suggested that another Serie A giant, Juventus, who have been actively looking in the market for a new custodian, are also ‘following the negotiations’ for the Leeds star.

If Perri goes to Torino, then Juventus feel Leeds could step up on their interest in Bianconeri goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio.

Amid transfer interest, commentator Pope believes that there is ‘no way’ Perri can leave Leeds at the moment, since the club have not signed a replacement yet.

The commentator feels that the uncertainty around the goalkeeper’s future and Torino’s interest will remain until the Whites sign a new custodian.

Speaking on Don’t Go To Bed Just Yet (09:51), “The Perri thing is still interesting – there’s no way he can go out the building at the moment.

“There isn’t anyone [else to turn to in goal]. We saw this last week.

“But I still think all the bubbling that’s gone around him and Torino will stay alive until this thing gets sorted.”

Alex Cairns remains on the books at Leeds, but the club will likely need two new shot-stoppers if Perri goes.

Sensing the uncertainty, Torino are now considering Nottingham Forest goalkeeper John Victor as an alternative in the event they fail to land the Whites’ shot-stopper.
